Georgia is through to the Round of 16 in Euro 2024! On Wednesday, the Georgian national team stunned Portugal with a 2-0 victory at the Schalke Arena. Kvaratskhelia, targeted by PSG as a potential replacement for Mbappé, opened the scoring with a lightning-fast goal, and Euro top scorer Mikautadze sealed the win with a penalty in the second half.

Aiming for a spot in the Round of 16, Georgia surprised Portugal with an early goal in the first half. The team's star, Kvaratskhelia, received the ball at speed and capitalized on the counter-attack to score just 1 minute into the match. Already secured in first place in the group and fielding a largely reserve team, the Portuguese dominated possession but squandered numerous opportunities to equalize. Cristiano Ronaldo went into the halftime break visibly frustrated with the refereeing.

In the second half, Portugal continued to control possession but lacked the creativity to find an equalizer. At 10 minutes, after a VAR review, a penalty was awarded to Georgia. Austria has already made a memorable run in Euro 2024. The Austrian team edged out the Netherlands 3-2 in the final round of Group D at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, securing the top spot in the group, helped by a draw between France and Poland. Coach Ralf Rangnick's team secured the victory with goals from Malen (own goal), Schmid, and Sabitzer. Gakpo and Memphis Depay scored for the Netherlands.

Austria heavily utilized the flanks, resulting in the only goal of the first half, an own goal by Malen. In the second half, the Netherlands pushed forward, always chasing the score. Gakpo equalized in a counterattack in the second minute, but Schmid put Austria back in the lead with a header in the 13th minute. Memphis Depay equalized again in the 29th minute after Weghorst won an aerial duel, but Sabitzer sealed the victory in the 35th minute after receiving a great through ball from Baumgartner.
