Goal disallowed in the Brazilian team’s debut in the Copa América
The Brazilian national team disappointed and drew 0-0 with Costa Rica on Monday night (24), in their debut in Group D of the 2024 Copa América. The match was held at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, in the metropolitan area of Los Angeles, California.
The first half was completely dominated by Brazil. The team led by Dorival Júnior had 69% possession and made eight shots on goal. At 32 minutes, defender Marquinhos even opened the scoring, but the goal was disallowed by VAR, which noted an offside in the play. In the second half, Brazil continued to press. At 17 minutes, Paquetá shot from outside the box and hit the post. With the opponent tightly defending, Dorival sought offensive alternatives by bringing on Endrick and Savinho, replacing Raphinha and Vini Jr.
The pressure persisted and goalkeeper Patrick Sequeira stood out at 33 minutes, saving a powerful shot from Arana. In the final minutes, Bruno Guimarães missed a clear chance in the box, and the team ended up with a disappointing draw against the modest Costa Rica.
